The Metal Element

Autumn is Metal time, when the trees let go of their leaves, so we must let go of the old, making way for a fresh start. What we learn from nature at this time is not to hang on, but to recognise the treasure we have collected and eliminate what we no longer need, revealing that which is most precious in our lives. Metal energy is about quality and value.

Confusingly, the Metal element is not only about metal, but also salts and rocks; think metalled track etc

The emotion associated with the Metal energy is Grief. Appropriately expressing our grief helps us to stay healthy. Unhealthy manifestations of this emotion may see someone unable to move on after loss, or even to be unable to express their grief at all.

The Lungs and the Colon work together for the Metal element; The Lungs are about inspiration; filling ourselves with clean, cool autumn air and allowing time for reflection, whereas the Colon is about letting go and eliminating waste, leaving space for new ideas, thoughts and relationships to come in when we are ready.

How to harmonise your Metal

  • Have a  good clear out, de-clutter and let go of things you no longer need
  • Resolve issues  you have with relatives or acquaintances and allow yourself to move on      from them
  • Breathe,  slowly and deeply. Inhale cool, clean air and exhale pain and negativity
